Lil Wayne the best rapper alive?

Of late it seems that everyone’s favorite rapper might just be the boy young weezy, known to the public as Lil’
Wayne. If you think there is any question of Lil Wayne’s popularity then just turn the radio on and see who is featured on all of your heavily rotated songs. In a music where flow seems to be everything, Wayne seems to have it all. Not to mention, with Wayne’s newest claim to being strictly “the best rapper alive” instead of the “the best rapper alive since the best rapper retired” one can’t fight the conversation or not be intrigued by it.

In the last two weeks or so hype on Weezy’s next album has increased, and two decent mixtapes have dropped feat the young stunner himself ( Check out http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/mixtape/id.122/title.lil-wayne-the-best-rapper-alive and http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/mixtape/id.125/title.dj-trigga-jay-z-vs-lil-wayne ). Just like everyone else I’m feeling the swagger and flow of Lil’ Wayne, but there is an argument for and against him being the best rapper alive. In my mind the argument against and for go something like this.

Why Wayne is the best rapper alive?

No understand flow like Wayne. If you have any questions on Wayne’s flow just take a second to break down his version of “Show me what you got” when he says, “ Trying to tell you I can kick it Liu Kang n****/ Got that subzero flow how you want me ma, make her get over here like scorpion/” (check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jXDfRMUkLU)

Wayne knows is cross appeal right now. Like Jigga early this decade and late in the 90’s Wayne has mastered cross appeal. Every hood and every suburb seems to feel him.

He’s the artist that your favorite artist wants on his track. Self explanatory, but if you have questions then just listen to Fat Joe’s “Make it Rain”. The song is good, but the short hook from Wayne makes it a banger (check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzPFkrmvI7w)

Why Wayne isn’t the best rapper alive?

Cause Wayne ain’t even the best rapper in the South. TI sold the most albums of any rapper with a new album in 2006 (check out http://bumpshack.com/?p=1719). Luda just won a grammy. Not to mention, both of these artist have proven themselves as monsters on a track whenever they want to.

Cause Wayne doesn’t say a damn thing substantive. Flow is huge in hip hop, but it would be nice if some substance was included every so often. Case and point, take the same “Show me what you got” rmx and watch Black Ice flow on it (check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BV2R8Mx3il8 )

Cause at the end of the day hoes, drugs, and guns can only go so far. Longevity is found by artists who show complexity. As of now, Wayne hasn’t done this.

Wow, I'm glad you took this entry in the direction you did because when I read the title I got pretty pissed off. Weezie is nicer than most people give him credit for but he's gotta mature his craft tons before he's considered in the same CATEGORY as the best current rappers like Common, Talib, Nas, Andre, Jadakiss, etc. I don't listen to a whole lotta radio any more, mainly because I'm fed up with hearing the same song ever 35 minutes (thank you Clear Channel), but Lil' Wayne isn't nearly as popular out here as he seems to be in the south. Right now I consider him skill-wise in the realm of Chingy, Nelly, Ying Yang, and the other pop cats- he's definitely more experienced than most of them but his content really hasn't evolved at all since he came out as the baby of Cash Money.

Yeah man. I'm talking about Weezy is a fad. Jackin beats on the Dedication and doin some raps about smokin weed will get some sales these days, but so will "Everyday I'm Hustlin." You gotta talk about something realer than that to get my serious attention at this point. Or at least get more unique with the beats, you know? Get a Premier beat or something, no more Mike Jones-type shit.

ya'll are all wildin. lil weazy is at the top of the game without a doubt. he's rapping about hustling with more imagination, fire, creativity and lyricism that anyone out there. he raps about love, money, family, the streets, and all other walks of his life. sure he isn't as mature as those people you listed, but he's also in his early 20s. ya'll need to actually listen to his shit before saying he's in the same category as Ying Yang...YIN YANG??? thats absurd. (on a seperate note: i think its interesting that people really do love him or hate him, think he's amazing (me) or think he's trash(yall)...i wonder why?)
